Blue Ringed Octopus
Octopi are the most amazing creatures, perhaps closest to alien intelligence that we have yet found. Their tentacles are governed by their own individual mini brains, which then come together as a collective to manage the entire creature, with the central brain really not having that much direct control over what each individual part is doing. They’re fiercely smart and exhibit fascinating behaviors, including being able to learn to use digital cameras to take photos of their favorite lab techs.
The blue ringed octopus (genus Hapalochlaena) is extra cool because they are tiny, very pretty with their electric blue marks, and super dangerous with their tetrodotoxin. Do not touch.
This piece is drawn with mechanical pencils on smooth Bristol paper.
