The Artist (Painted Lobster)
I’ve wanted to do a lobster piece for a long time but kept getting scared off by their faces, which are a fascinating but incomprehensible mass of wiggly little bits. But here we go, I did my best. Their eyes are the most beautiful and satisfying thing to draw. This guy is a mix of different lobster species, plus he’s into tattoos, so I can’t really identify him for you. But he is sitting on a field of bladder wrack seaweed.
Lobsters, while delicious, are friends and not food as far as I am concerned. Amazing sea bugs who don’t age, which is just crazy. I would love to be able to see the biggest oldest lobster out there, ruling the hidden depths of some remote ocean corner.
The original drawing is 11x14 inches on smooth Bristol, professionally scanned and digitally colored.
