Wildflowers on Avenue Lacombe

from US$43.00

This is a mechanical pencil drawing of a mass of wildflowers I spotted while walking through my neighborhood. It is technically the first part of an interlocking pair. The piece took around three months to complete, though I was not working on it full time. The original drawing is 11x14 inches on smooth Bristol, professionally scanned and digitally colored.

One thing I really appreciate about Montreal is that the city lets these messy tangles of wildflowers thrive in random green strips and concrete planters. There is a very specific blend of species that shows up in these chaotic and cheerful little ecosystems and they’re my favorite thing about spring in the city.

I have a particular love for wildflowers because they manage to be both pretty and scrappy at the same time. They show you can be radiant and joyful while not really doing all that well. They are strong enough to push through cracks in concrete but delicate enough to sway in the breeze, unbothered.

Printed on Breathing Color Optica One paper
Matte finish, 300 gsm, bright white
Sizes - 12x16 - 16x20 - 18x24
Hand cut edges
No border
