“Tree of Life” - a Drawing That Took a Whole Year
The first time I thought of making this piece, I was looking at different lichens covering a branch in the Yamaska national park. Mosses and lichens are so beautiful and intricate, but I had a certain fear of trying to include them into a drawing because they have an intimidating level of detail.
Thinking about how lichen and fungi tend to patch together and grow all over each other just like coral and anemones tend to do, I decided to draw a branch covered in land things and sea things, together.
It took about a year from start to finish.
Once it was nearly done I realized it would be the perfect piece to raise funds for ocean protection, so I reached out to the Pangea Seed Foundation, who very kindly agreed to launch this print, in both colored and black and white versions, as part of their Artivism project.
If you want to pick one up, they will be available on the Pangea Seed Foundation website, starting from Thursday, May 23 2024 at 12pm PST
